Blog Image Australia's International Student Cap: A New Era Begins After months of uncertainty and controversy surrounding the proposed international student cap, a new era has dawned for Australia's international education sector. The recent revocation of Ministerial Direction 107 (MD107) and the introduction of Ministerial Direction 111 (MD111) have brought significant relief to institutions and students alike. The Rise and Fall of MD107 MD107, introduced in December 2023, had created significant challenges for international students, particularly those from certain countries. The directive classified institutions into risk categories and imposed stricter visa processing standards on higher-risk institutions. This led to increased visa rejection rates and uncertainty within the sector. MD111: A More Flexible Approach The newly implemented MD111 offers a more flexible approach to international student visa processing. It introduces a system of prioritisation based on indicative caps set for each institution. Visa applications will be processed with higher priority until the institution reaches its cap. Key Implications of MD111: Indicative Caps: While the indicative caps will influence visa processing priorities, they are not strict limits on student enrollment. Prioritized Processing: Visa applications from institutions that have not reached their cap will be processed with higher priority. Offshore Applications: The directive places a stronger emphasis on offshore visa applications, potentially impacting onshore processing times. Flexibility and Uncertainty: While MD111 provides more clarity than MD107, there is still room for interpretation and potential fluctuations in visa processing times. What Does This Mean for International Students? For international students planning to study in Australia, MD111 offers both opportunities and challenges. It's crucial to choose institutions that have not yet reached their indicative caps to ensure a smoother visa processing experience. Additionally, staying updated on the latest immigration policies and regulations is essential. Edit

Blog Image UK Launches Digital e-VISAs: A New Era Begins for International Students
The UK Home Office has officially launched its digital e-VISA system, replacing traditional visa stickers with fully electronic records. The move marks a significant shift in how international students and other long-term migrants manage and prove their immigration status.

Starting from 15 July 2025, student visa holders are the first group to transition to the e-VISA format. Over time, the rollout will expand to include those with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), settlement status and individuals staying in the UK for more than 6 months.

What Is an e-VISA?
An e-VISA is a digital proof of immigration status, stored electronically and securely linked to an individual’s UKVI account and passport. It replaces the need for physical visa vignettes or biometric residence permits (BRPs).

Why the Change?
The UK government states that the new system is designed to enhance security, convenience and efficiency:

No risk of losing or damaging physical documents

Faster processing and access to immigration records

Seamless border experience, as travelers can instantly verify their status

What Do You Need to Do?
To transition to an e-VISA, visa holders must:

Create a UKVI account

Verify their identity using a passport or biometric app

Link their e-VISA to their current passport

Travelers are encouraged to ensure that their UKVI account details match the passport they plan to use for international travel.

What This Means for Students
For international students, the move to e-VISAs simplifies both pre-arrival and post-arrival procedures. Students can now manage their status online, access updates easily and avoid delays tied to physical documentation.

At H&H Global Education, we welcome this digital transition as a step toward a more streamlined and student-friendly UK immigration system. Our expert advisors are prepared to assist all current and future students in setting up their e-VISAs and navigating the new digital processes with ease.

๐Ÿ“ฉ Need help transitioning to an e-VISA? Reach out to the H&H team for personalized guidance and support.
Edit
